FOUR new canons took their places in Salisbury Cathedral’s College of Canons on Thursday.

They were installed by Bishop of Salisbury the Rt Revd Nicholas Holtam during evensong in the Cathedral.

Each Canon is allocated their own stall in the Quire of the Cathedral.

The Revd Andrew Haviland, chaplain of Bryanston School was installed into Fordington and Writhlington, the Revd Kim Stephens, who leads the chaplaincy at Salisbury Hospital, was installed in Coombe and Harnham.

Both are non-residentiary canons.

Lay Canons Joy Tubbs and Victoria Bracey were installed into Trowbridge and Westbury respectively.

The College of Canons meets twice a year and its role is to provide feedback to the Cathedral on its activities and to inform the policy decisions of Chapter, its governing body.

The college also provides an opportunity for the cathedral to further its role in the wider diocesan and civic life within the counties of Wiltshire and Dorset.

Victoria Bracey grew up in North Wales and has degrees in modern history from Oxford, where she held the position of Junior Dean at Pembroke College, and in international relations from Cambridge.

She advises Salisbury Cathedral on fundraising and is completing a doctorate.

Joy Tubbs was appointed director of the Salisbury Diocesan Board of Education in October 2014, serving the children, young people and head teachers of 195 church schools and academies and their parish communities.

Joy is also the corporate member and a director of the Diocese of Salisbury Multi Academy Trust.

After 18 years in teaching, she spent three years as deputy director of education for Salisbury Diocese.

The Revd Kim Stephens has been ordained for nearly sixteen years.

She served for three years as a curate in the Salisbury Diocese, and spent thirteen years as a chaplain at Salisbury District Hospital, where she now leads the chaplaincy team.

Kim is passionate about the work of the NHS, and considers her ministry to be a privilege and a blessing. She is married with two step daughters, and in her spare time enjoys keeping fit, singing and walking in the hills.

The Revd Andrew Haviland is chaplain and head of philosophy and religious studies at Bryanston School in Dorset.

He came to Bryanston in 2008 after 14 years at the comprehensive school in Cranleigh, where latterly he was assistant headteacher.
