SALISBURY’S Mormon community has its own place of worship for the first time as the chapel at Old Sarum was completed on Sunday.

Mayor of Salisbury, Councillor Jo Broom officially opened the new building, which was open to all for its first meeting for worship.

The brand new chapel at Westside Close is built on land at that was originally purchased in 1988.

Over the years members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have met at various places in Salisbury, including at the Red Lion in the city centre and most recently at South Wilts Grammar School.

There will be an open day from 11am to 4pm on May 23 to give local people a chance to look around the new building.
