The current exhibition, organised by Artcare, at Salisbury Hospital features the work of students in Laura Bell’s watercolour and drawing classes.

The show has a decided Japanese style.

Prints by Hokusai, Utamaro and Hiroshima have been studied for watercolours of flowers, birds and insects.

Even the BBC’s series, Wolf Hall, didn’t escape.

Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn were given a Japanese makeover.

East meets West in the work of Whistler and Van Gogh, and their paintings inspired the students’ landscapes of Staithes, a North Yorkshire fishing village much loved by artists.

Similarly, Elizabeth Blackadder, a keen student of Japanese style, was a big inspiration for the flower painting.

Pictures are all for sale at prices to suit all pockets.

The exhibition continues until August 7.
