THOUSANDS of people attended this year’s Chalke Valley History Festival with highlights including its largest airshow to date, a Victory Party and landmark anniversaries.

Among the speakers attending the event, which is in its fifth year, were Ian Hislop with Guy Walters, historian Dan Snow and his broadcaster father Peter.

Festival co-chairman and programme director James Holland said: “We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of our crowds, speakers and exhibitors who created a wonderful atmosphere and made this year’s festival the most successful yet.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us and we hope to welcome you back in 2016.”

Those joining the festival line-up for the first time this year included the historians David Starkey and Andrew Roberts, the British Museum director Neil MacGregor and Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes.

In addition to a host of distinguished speakers, visitors were able to come face-to-face with Romans, knights of the Middle Ages, Napoleonic riflemen and Tommies from the two world wars.

The event is the largest festival dedicated to history in the UK.

The 2016 dates are June 27 to July 3, 2016.
