SCHOOL children became Romans for a fun-filled afternoon of activities at Rockbourne Roman Villa in Fordingbridge.

More than 20 youngsters from five primary schools attended the event and took part in a variety of Roman inspired activities. They were also given a tour of the remains of the villa.

The Sarah Kinsley Fund invited junior schools in the charity’s catchment area to attend the awareness event. The aim of the afternoon was to raise awareness of the charity, who provide financial support towards services or equipment for children 0 to19-years-old in the Sarah Kinsley Fund catchment of Ringwood, Downton, Fordingbridge, Cranborne and Alderholt.

The afternoon ended with a presentation by the fund’s patron Doone Hulse and the Mayor of Fordingbridge, Cllr Malcolm Connolly, for the best mosaic tile design.

Fordingbridge Junior School won the first Sarah Kinsley trophy for 2015. As well a certificate and medal for all twenty children, the Fordingbridge Junior School team of four each received a voucher for a group of four to tour Rockbourne Roman Villa.

The Western Downland School team won a prize for the best team name — Victores Armaturas.

The event was arranged through the Hampshire Cultural Trust.
