A TEAM from the Salisbury Ladies Hockey Club raised hundreds of pounds for the Stars Appeal Breast Cancer Unit Campaign after walking 10km at Martin Down.

Members from the club, which is part of the South Wilts Sport Club, took part in the walk on Saturday.

Jo Bonner who helped organise the event said: “The 5th Team chose to fundraise for this particular charity because most of us have, or had, friends and colleagues with breast cancer and we want to support our local hospital, especially as they are fundraising for their own breast cancer unit.

“Unfortunately due to other commitments we could not take part in other charity events in aid of the appeal so we decided to organise are our own event.

“We raised £910 in sponsorship and donations and we hope to add another £250 towards that total in the next few weeks.

“We decided on the walk that it would be a good idea to raise funds for a local charity on a yearly basis and we are now thinking of what we would like to do next summer and what community event or charity we would like to support.”
