A NEW street cleaning service is being launched in Salisbury to tackle the city's "scruffy and dirty areas".
The service is an additional one to which is currently provided and is being funded by local businesses, a city council grant and a one-off grant from Salisbury Area Board and starts on Monday.
Steve Godwin from the Business Improvement District (BID), which has teamed up with the city council to provide the service, said: “It is at the request of local businesses and is in addition to existing cleaning services on the city streets within the ring road.
"I have walked the streets with a number of businesses and identified particular areas where there is a problem.
“People want to be proud of their city and many take great pride in their premises but have been frustrated by those areas that remain dirty and scruffy and bring our city down - comments often made by people visiting the city."
Jill and Phil Jolliffe of Shirley Snells in Milford Street said: “We are delighted the new cleaning service is about to start - it is exactly what Salisbury needs."
