JEWELLERY worth thousands of pounds was stolen after burglars smashed their way into a home.

The burglary took place between between 1pm on Sunday, August 9 and 3pm on Monday, August 10.

Police say offenders smashed their way in to the home in West Street, Barford St Martin and stole the expensive jewellery.

A second home was broken into at Devizes Road, Salisbury, between 5pm on Monday, August 10, and 4.50pm on Tuesday, August 11, and jewellery was stolen from the bedrooms.

PC Ben Brewster from Amesbury Police Station said: "Both of these incidents have been very upsetting for the owners, who were away at the time, and came home to find jewellery had been stolen and windows smashed, or locks damaged.

"I would like to urge residents to be mindful of home security, especially during the holiday season, as well as the importance of reporting any suspicious behaviour within your neighbourhood.

"I would also like to remind residents of community messaging — a free two-way communication tool which residents can sign up to and receive messages about policing and crime matters in their area by email, text or voicemail.
