A FONTHILL Bishop-based author, who used writing to combat depression, has re-released his first book — but this time with an alternative ending.

Jasen Quick’s book The Significant Deaths of Cage and Constance was inspired by Salisbury and the new and improved version will be available in bookshops from the end of the week.

The former teacher and historian wrote the book when he was living in Devon and says he had to do a lot of research about the city having only visited a couple of times. The novel is set in Salisbury between 1875 up to present times.

Jasen, who now works as a steward at Stonehenge which is a location that features in the book, said: “I am really excited about the book, it is what I hoped it would have been four years ago."

He says writing this book and others has helped with his depression and also in provided inspiration for the stories and characters in his books.

He added: “It helped my depression – it has been very therapeutic.”

The Significant Deaths of Cage and Constance centres around the main character of Cage Reynolds – an “immortal” who has lived through two world wars and even a close encounter with Jack the Ripper. He gets taken on a journey of discovery after meeting the mysterious Clementine who works for antiquities dealer Constance Sullivan.

Jasen has written a number of other novels, which he hopes to release soon, and says he has been writing from a young age.

He said: “I have always been writing. When I was a teenager I had a fantastic English teacher who was really inspirational.”

The book, published by Mirador Publishing, will be available in bookshops the end of the month and is already available online from Amazon.
