A SALISBURY nursing assistant is lacing up her running shoes to take on the Tidworth 10K and is urging others to get fit and help raise money for the Stars Appeal.

Karen Nolan works at Salisbury District Hospital on Redlynch Ward and is also studying a degree in nursing.

She was inspired to take part in the race because of her father Colin Hewitt who died of lung cancer seven years ago and she knows others who have been affected by the disease.

She will be taking part in the event on October 4 alongside some of her friends.

“You can have fun and raise money for a really important cause,” said Karen.

Karen ran the Tidworth 10K last year but did not manage to complete the final 1K of the course. This time she says she is determined to finish the whole 10K circuit and has been busy training for the event.

She added: “Even though my focus for running this event is because of the cancer, I would also like to add that Stars Appeal are doing an amazing job raising money for patients, families and to buy better equipment.

“If it wasn't for these charities then people like me and thousands of others would not have the opportunity to contribute toward such good causes.

“If you have never raised money for charity before by doing the 10K, then now is the time. All it takes is two minutes of your time to register. Get out there, get fit, have fun and most of all raise some money."
