"I COULD have lost my children – this person needs to be caught.”

Those are the words of a Ringwood mother whose girls were involved in an horrific 60mph smash after a driver swerved into the path of their Renault Clio on Wednesday.

Jakki Warry said daughters Sam, 21, and Emily, 17, could have been killed in the crash, which took place on the A31 westbound near the Ashley Heath Roundabout at 1.13pm.

And witnesses have reported seeing the dark estate car responsible for the collision slow as the Clio flipped onto its side before driving through crash debris and leaving the scene at speed.

“I had a phone call from Emily – she was hysterical,” Jakki said. “She said the car had rolled and she was OK but her sister wasn’t. That’s all I knew at that point.”

Driver Emily suffered significant cuts and bruises in the crash.

Sam’s hand was crushed, and she required surgery yesterday to try and repair the damage.

Jakki praised witnesses at the scene, and said: “The crash happened on a stretch of road with four lanes.

“Two go off towards the Spur Road, and two go towards Ferndown. Other drivers said the person behind the wheel of the other car suddenly swerved across the chevrons between the carriageways, and Emily lost control of the car as she tried to react to avoid a crash.”

The Clio flipped and rolled across the road, ending up on its side close to the central reservation.

While Emily was able to free herself from the car, Sam was trapped by her seatbelt.

Jakki said: “Sam was in the air.

“Emily could see Sam was bleeding quite badly from her hand, so she undid Sam’s seatbelt and let Sam fall on her, and then she helped to pull her out through the sunroof.”

She said Emily, who passed her driving test in January, is insured with a company which uses a tracker to assess a driver’s skill, taking money off for the top results. Emily has been assessed as "excellent" each month since she passed.

Witness Adam Dean, of Upton, was driving directly behind the Clio and could only watch in horror as the second car suddenly swerved into its path.

“It was like something in a film,” he said.

“I was able to brake and put the hazard lights on. The dark estate car had slowed down and was next to me, and then it drove through all the glass on the road from the windscreen and just shot off down the road.”

PC Mark Palmer of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit said: “This collision could have been a lot more serious and it’s remarkable that the victims didn’t sustain more injuries.”

“I am appealing to any witnesses of the collision, who we haven’t already spoken to, to please call me on 101.

“I would also urge the driver of the dark coloured estate, who was present at the time of the incident, to contact me urgently.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 26:183.
