AMESBURY residents say building work is turning their lives into a “nightmare”.

People living in Cold Harbour are fed up with a new house being built at Lilac Cottage, which is up a narrow access road.

Cllr Fred Westmorland agreed to visit the site at Amesbury Town Council’s meeting on Tuesday.

Speaking for the residents, Joanna Bhaya told the meeting builders had damaged the road and surrounding houses. She said: residents had no problem with the new building, just the way it was being built.

She said the lorries were too big for the small access road and also raised concerns about asbestos left on-site since the old bungalow was demolished, saying it was a health and safety hazard for children passing on their way to school.

On Friday, a lorry reversed into Joanna’s garden, pinning her dog under some fencing.

She said: “This time it was a dog but what if it is my grandchildren — enough is enough.”

Before the meeting, Joanna said: “It is becoming a nightmare for everyone concerned.”

Cold Harbour residents say nothing has changed since a previous meeting with landowner Giuseppe Ardani on August 21.

They asked Mr Ardani for written confirmation any damage would be repaired.

Before the meeting, Mr Ardani said the nine-year-old planning application had been renewed every three years and each time builders had assessed the plot and access to it, and had passed it with no restriction.

And he said there had been no objections from residents.

“We are sorry the residents do not like the disruption, however, this will be short-lived and, as we have already assured them, any damage proven to be caused by our building works will be made good by us on completion.”
