FOUR drivers speeding at more than 100mph were caught on the A303 Mere bypass on Wednesday.

Seven traffic cops focusing on the "fatal four" — mobiles, speeders, seatbelts and drink and drug driving — clocked 11 speeders at 92mph or above.

Five speeders will receive prosecution letters in the post and four were reported at the roadside because they were going so fast.

They were doing 100mph, 102mph, 108mph and one motorbike doing 118mph.

One driver was caught on his mobile and three lorry drivers were fined at total of £900 for tachograph offences.

Sergeant Rich Hatch said: "This was a successful operation and highlights the dangerous speeds that some motorists were driving at along the A303.

"Our high visibility patrol of the road resulted in a positive response from the community and has provided reassurance after the recent fatalities and community concerns.

"We will be carrying out similar checks in the future."
