THE Vulcan will make one of its last farewell appearances in the world at the very first Old Sarum Airshow today (September 12).
The bomber is due to be permanently grounded next month as it is becoming too old to keep flying.
The two-day airshow is taking place at Old Sarum Airfield today and tomorrow and will feature the sights and sounds of the Spitfire, Hurricane, Mustang and a gathering of other classic Warbirds, to celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
There will be high energy aerobatics from Lauren Richardson in the Girl Power Pitts Special and rarely seen historic aircraft.
Organizers are planning a special formation of the Vulcan and the B17 Flying Fortress, two of Europe’s last classic big four engined bombers.
The historic First World War airbase will host the Old Sarum Airshow for the first time this year and will launch the start of Salisbury Wings Week which is a celebration of the aviation history of the area.
