GOLFERS are being invited to tee-off to boost funds to help provide dental care to people living in the world's poorest countries.

The event takes place at Hamptworth Golf Club on October 2 and is in aid of international dental charity Dentaid, which is based in Landford.

Participants will enjoy 18 holes of golf, breakfast and a hot buffet lunch. And they will be able to compete for prizes for the longest drive and shot nearest the pin and the winning team will receive the Gollings Trophy.

The charity sends teams of dental practitioners to countries including Uganda, Cambodia, Malawi and Zimbabwe where they run clinics for people who are suffering due to a lack of dental provision.

The charity, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary next year, also sends emergency dental equipment and entire dental surgeries that can be packed into a wheelie bin to communities where access to dentistry is very limited.

“Dentaid is dedicated to eradicating dental pain around the world by providing vital dental care,” said strategic director of Dentaid, Andy Evans. “The golf day is one of the highlights of our busy fundraising calendar and we are sure it will be a fantastic day for golfers and the charity.”

Entry is £60 and anyone interested can register by emailing kerry@dentaid.org or call 01794 324249.
