CHILDREN at a Salisbury school got in the spirit of the Rugby World Cup with a passing challenge for disadvantaged youngsters.

Hundreds of pupils at Leehurst Swan School set themselves a test of making 45,000 passes in 15 minutes.

The target was achieved by the school keeping 30 balls moving across a 500m course.

Headmaster Roger Leake said: “The children had a wonderful time and we were stunned by the generosity of our parent body. Rugby is a beautiful game and it’s always great to see the children excited about it.

"We managed a huge number of passes in 15 minutes, I think they got rather competitive when they got into it!”

Wednesday's fun was in aid of two charities.

Itrust, set up by Independent Association of Prep Schools, supports the welfare of children in education and Wooden Spoon helps youngsters who are socially, mentally or physically disadvantaged through a range of projects.
