A COLON surgery support group for people in Wiltshire is holding a fundraising event on Bournemouth Pier on Saturday, October 3, to mark World Ostomy Day.
West Hants Wilts & Dorset IA aims to help those who have had, or are about to have, surgery to remove the colon and create an ileostomy or an ileostomy pouch.
The group is run by people who have undergone this operation and live with an ileostomy, and are therefore able to empathise with anyone in this position.
The group holds three social meetings a year across the region so that patients and their families can meet and exchange hints and tips, so they get on with a normal life.
On Saturday at midday, committee members have dared themselves to fly down the pier zip wire to raise awareness, celebrate the fact that life can be lived to the full post surgery, and to raise money for the IA Research Fund.
