CHILDREN at Coombe Bissett Primary School found out more about healthy eating during a special Sugar Wise event.

The work was part of the school's Healthy Harvest Week and the children explored how much sugar is found in our diet. The children used sugar cubes, each 4g, to show the different amounts of sugar, both natural and added, which is in food and drink.

The children looked at breakfast cereals, fruit snacks, juices and drinks. It led to looking at the nutritional information labels on the products using their maths skills and trying to investigate how much added sugar they are eating and drinking each day.

The children were then able to make healthy choices about the food and drink they would choose.

The week ended with each child taking home a bottle of natural mineral water containing no sugar.
