FRIENDS and family of a young Ringwood mother of two, who is confined to a wheelchair, are raising money to buy a motorised scooter to enable her to participate more in family and community life.

Mary Hague-Burton, 37, fell out of her bedroom window while sleepwalking last August and was left with the equivalent of a severe stroke-like injury.

After four months in hospital, Mary now faces life in a wheelchair and is paralysed down her left side.

Her husband, Mark, said: "With two young children of five and two it's been a trifle difficult over the last few months."

He said that with a motorised scooter Mary should be able to pick her daughter up from school and gain some independence.

A number of events are being organised, including a treasure hunt around Ringwood, a barbecue and a silent auction.

The treasure hunt will take place on Monday, May 28, at the Guildhall, Cloughs Road, Ringwood from 2pm. Tickets are available for £2 for adults and £1 for children from The Naughty Corner, Fridays Cross, Ringwood.

With physiotherapy Mary is now getting some movement back in her left leg and the couple have expressed their thanks to staff at Southampton and Salisbury hospitals as well as Snowdon House, the rehabilitation centre in Ashurst.

Mark added: "Snowdon House has been a godsend to Mary. They've really helped her. Thanks should also go to all the other mums at Poulner Infant School who have organised fundraising and helped with the children when Mary was in hospital."
