TEENAGERS between 15 and 17 will get the chance to book a driving lesson with a qualified instructor at a special road safety awareness day to be held at Matchams Park, near Ringwood.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 19, between 9am and 3pm and is the brainchild of Flying Colours School of Motoring boss Jonathan Ferguson whose son was recently knocked off his bike by a camper van.

He said: "This is an attempt to make youngsters more aware while having a bit of fun driving a car on a large, safe area of road."

The day will feature a road safety talk and displays featuring crumpled cycles and motorbikes, which have been involved in accidents. There will be the opportunity to book a 20-minute driving session for 15- to 17-year-olds for £15.

Mr Ferguson added: "I am passionate about raising bike awareness and safety by getting youngsters behind the wheel so they can see situations from a driver's perspective."
