THE night sky was an explosion of colour over Salisbury cattle market on Saturday evening at the annual Rotary Spireworks display.

Thousands of people attended the popular firework event to music which is a joint venture between Salisbury and Wilton Rotary clubs, raising funds for local charities.

There was entertainment from multi platinum-selling singer/songwriter Sandi Thom, who rocketed to fame in 2006 with her single I Wish I Was A Punkrocker. The six-month pregnant Sandi sang her most popular hit along with a number of other tracks from her latest album, before counting down this year's explosive display.

Godolphin sixth former Bella Beney also took to the stage with a number of covers, including Taylor Swift and Oasis.

Earlier storms meant that the traditional bonfire could not be lit but the fireworks display was not affected by the weather.

Richard Corey, the president elect of the Wilton Rotary Club, said: "It was very well attended. Everybody enjoyed the acts on the stage.

"There was a good turnout of people on the stalls who were happy with the sales of food and drink."

It is hoped takings will be up on last year's event. Mr Corey thanked everyone who supported the event.
