A CARERS support and information morning run by a GP surgery in Salisbury is taking place next Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

The event in the drama block at Bishop Wordsworth's School is the second one this month and is being organised by St Ann Street Medical Practice.

Dr Julian Totman said: "It's a trial that we are running, if successful, we will probably support them on a biannual basis.

"We all know there are lots of unpaid and unrecognised carers for many older and frailer people.

"We are trying to better signpost them to let them know what support is available both in a long-term setting but also, crucially, in an emergency setting to try and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

"While this will save money, it has become much more than that - we want to inform our patients, and carers of our patients, what services are available."

On hand to talk with people next Saturday will be doctors, nurses and care coordinators from St Ann Street Medical Practice in addition to representatives from various groups such as Action on Addiction and stands on carers support and dementia awareness.

The first carers' support morning took place this morning.

Organisers are asking those interested in attending next Saturday's event to park in Brown Street Car Park or an alternative car park due to the Bishop Wordsworth's Christmas Fair being held on Saturday and the anticipated limited parking on site.
