IF you work with wood, or just love looking at things made of wood, then the biggest wood fair in the south of England in October should be in your diary.

The Cranborne Chase Wood Fair, which is being organised by the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, will be held at the beautiful Larmer Tree in Tollard Royal on Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21.

The organisers are keen to involve all wood folk from Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire, and are urging anyone who works with wood - foresters, furniture makers, willow weavers and wood turners - to get involved.

The fair aims to promote the environment, and the social and economic value of the region's trees and woods.

The fair will attract a variety of exhibitors and demonstrators from the world of wood, all of whom will be displaying their products and skills.

Shire horses, which are still one of the most effective means of logging, will be at the fair, which will also celebrate the region's famous and traditional industries such as cider, willow and food production.

David Blake, one of the team organisers, said: "We've got everything from big forestry machines to medieval farriers, falconry to furniture makers, timber frames to wood turning. Whether it's the old world of wood you hanker after or the potential of biofuels as a means of tackling climate change, the Cranborne Chase Wood Fair can show you why wood is as relevant today as it's always been."
