AN AMESBURY teenager chopped off her locks — the day before her 14th birthday — to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Sophie Hepworth had her hair, which was 21 inches long, shaved off at Headquarters Hairdressers in Amesbury on Wednesday. She raised more than £200 for the charity.

She will also be donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust which provides wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Speaking about her new hair style, Sophie said: "I like it a lot."

She says she has been overwhelmed by the support she has received, adding: "I am overwhelmed and really happy {about how how much I have raised for charity]."

Proud mum Nikki has thanked everyone who supported her daughter and the Headquarters Hairdressers for giving their time for free to cut Sophie's hair.
