HELPERS turned out in force to carry out much-needed repairs to a village footpath.

They helped replace a couple of broken stiles with kissing gates, cleared brambles and overhanging branches from the Alderbury path.

Staff from Wiltshire Council, who provided tools and raw materials, also mucked in on Monday.

Abby Sullivan, volunteer coordinator for South Wiltshire Paths Group, said: “It’s becoming harder and harder to maintain and enhance our pathways. Many become overgrown by vegetation, making them only accessible to the most avid walker.

“Casual walkers are often put off by the lack of way marking and signage, and many stiles are in need of repair or are difficult to negotiate for older residents. It’s vital our staff’s work is supported by volunteers, and we’re immensely grateful to people, like those who turned out in Alderbury this week, for their support.”
