TEN operations at Salisbury District Hospital have been cancelled as junior doctors go on their second 24-hour walkout.

The strike is part of a dispute with the government over pay and conditions. Junior doctors walked out at 8am.

Hospital bosses apologised for any inconvenience and said they were prepared for the disruption with contingency plans in place.

Ten operations and 71 outpatient appointments were cancelled.

In cold conditions about 20 doctors formed a picket line with passing drivers blowing their horns in a show of support.

Dr Johann Malawana, from the BMA, said: “We deeply regret the disruption caused to patients, but this is a fight for the long-term delivery of high quality patient care, for junior doctors’ working lives and for ability of the NHS to rise to the enormous challenges facing it."
