A COUPLE who transformed their garden with the help of Monty Don will be on TV on Thursday evening in a new BBC series of Big Dreams Small Spaces.

Zoe and Glenn Crockford's 15m by 20m garden in Old Sarum was filmed over eight weeks as it underwent the radical change from being unsafe and unusable to become a little spot of paradise.

The couple applied to take part in the programme after seeing a notice on the back of Gardeners' World.

Zoe, a teacher at Bulford St Leonard's Primary School, said: "Our garden was pretty horrific - we moved there in 2014 and we were unable to use it because it was so steep.

"The notice was looking for people thinking about doing up their garden and interested in being involved in a makeover programme.

"Within four weeks Monty Don was in our garden."

The couple not only wanted to make their garden useable but also hoped to grow flowers for their wedding day.

As part of the programme, they were taken to Sarah Raven's garden in Sussex for inspiration on what flowers to plant.

"In total it took eight weeks and that was with us spending all of our spare time working on it," Zoe said.

"Because it's so steep, we couldn't bring in any machinery so we had to do it all by hand.

"Monty dropped in throughout that time helping us out and offering advice, and the film crew came many more times, filming us in progress.

"We were also given a time lapse camera to film ourselves."

Making the most of garden centre end of season plant sales, the couple were able to complete the makeover for £2,800.

Their garden now has two large terraces with retaining walls, two large flower beds, a woodland area, a seating area and a platform seat surrounded by tall plants.

And the couple ended up being able to provide all of their wedding flowers from the garden - for an October wedding.

"It was the most incredible experience we've ever had - exciting and fun," Zoe said.

Big Dreams Small Spaces is on BBC2 on Thursday at 8pm.
