PAULA Davies has been a member of the Housekeeping team for 23 years.

“No two days are the same,” she says. “I never know what’s going to happen when the telephone rings.”

Now a supervisor, in charge of 30 people, Paula, pictured right, first became a cleaner on the maternity ward.

She said: “My children were getting to an age where I could go to work and my next-door neighbour at the time worked at the hospital, and recommended it.

“I did weekends at the start, from 7am to 12pm. By 2002, my children were older and I went full-time Monday to Friday, working on Tisbury ward – the coronary care unit.

"Then in 2006, the chance of having an interview for a supervisor came up and I decided to apply, and was successful.

"The role involves making sure everything is as it should be. I also conduct appraisals, run the manual handling courses and train staff. It’s daunting when you first arrive – it’s a big hospital and you think you’ll never find your way around but you do. We are a big, happy family and support each other.”

Shift times are Monday to Friday: 5.30am-2pm, 7am-3pm, 8.30am- 4.30pm, noon- 8pm, 4pm-8pm and 8pmmidnight.

At weekends: 7am-12pm, 4pm-8pm.
