A SUSPECTED drink driver has been arrested after her car plunged into a river in last night.
The white Seat Ibiza smashed through a barrier and into the River Ebble in the Chalke Valley.
The car was travelling north along Howgare Road from Broadchalke towards the junction with High Road when the car missed the bridge, ploughed through a fence and ended up in the water, close to the riverbank on the other side.
A passer-by reported the incident to police at just before midnight.
The driver abandoned the car at the scene.
A 46-year-old woman from the Salisbury area was arrested in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol.
She has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
