A 64-year-old woman from the Salisbury area died in a serious crash involving a coach and three cars near Marlborough yesterday.

Emergency services were called at 1.45pm yesterday to the A346 at Wet Pits Lane, near Ogbourne St Andrew.

One woman, suffering head injuries, was trapped in her car and fire crews from Marlborough and Swindon released her.

Police reported that a woman driver of a red Mazda MX5, from the Salisbury area, who had been heading north, suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene just after 3pm.

A Barnes coach, which did not have passengers onboard, was heading south.

As a result of the crash with the Mazda it also collided with a BMW and a Vauxhall Astra.

The coach driver, a 61-year-old man from the Swindon area, was taken to the Great Western Hospital suffering minor injuries and was kept in overnight for observation.

The road was blocked in both directions from Marlborough Golf Club to Chiseldon, finally reopening at 12.30am today.

This is the second crash along the A346 near Marlborough in a month.

A woman was seriously injured and another woman hurt after the car they were travelling in collided with a tree on the A346 on Tuesday, February 9.

Police, fire crews and the air ambulance were all called to the crash near Wet Pits Lane in Ogbourne St Andrew just after 4pm and the road was closed for nearly six hours.
