RESIDENTS in the Bishopdown and Bishopdown Farm areas are being urged to check their vehicles for signs of damage or tampering.

The warning comes after an increased amount of car crime over the past few nights and reports of wheels nuts being loosened on vehicle wheels.

A police spokesman said: "There has been an increased amount of vehicle crime over the past few nights in the area. In particular, wheel nuts have been loosened causing wheels to become unsafe.

"There has already been one confirmed case of a wheel coming off whilst being driven as a result of this.

"Please make sure you check your vehicle for any signs of damage/tampering before you use it.

"If you believe that your wheels or any other part of your vehicle have been tampered with it is imperative that you do not use your vehicle until you know it is safe to do so."

If you have any information about this series of vehicle crime, can you please report this either via 101 or to the Bourne Hill Police Station enquiry office.
