IT is gearing up to be a record turnout for the tenth anniversary of the Clarendon Way Walk.

The 26-mile walk will take place on June 5 and begins at Winchester Cathedral and finishes at Salisbury Cathedral with walkers aiming to raise money for Naomi House & Jacksplace.

Normally a month before the event only a few hundred people have signed-up but already more than 1,000 walkers have committed to taking on the challenge.

The Clarendon Way Walk is the hospice’s largest annual fundraiser and regularly brings in more than £100,000 in donations. Staff at the charity are hopeful that this year’s event may bring in close to £150,000 towards the charity’s support for families in Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Nicole Davies, Events Fundraiser for Naomi House & Jacksplace, said: “For our 10th anniversary Clarendon Way Walk to be proving so popular is absolutely fantastic and we are so grateful to everyone that has signed up already.

"We only need another 400 walkers to come forward to break our all-time record, so this is definitely the year to take part. Every penny that the event raises goes to support the hundreds of seriously ill children, young people and their families that we care for at Naomi House & Jacksplace.”

For those who don’t feel up to taking on the full 26-mile challenge, a 12 mile walk is available from the village of Broughton to Salisbury.

The 26 mile walk starts at 8am and most walkers should expect to arrive in Winchester around 9 hours later.
