A TEACHER found himself in a sticky situation on Friday when pupils taped him to a wall.

St Edmund’s year 11 student Kate Davies wanted to give something back to the hospital that saved her life, as she recovered from a serious riding accident over the Easter holiday.

Her answer: get students to pay to tape a teacher to a wall.

Salisbury Journal:

Kate, who is currently sitting her GCSEs, was taking part in a show-jumping competition in Winchester when she fell badly from her horse and was taken to Salisbury District Hospital.

She arrived in a serious condition and later had her spleen removed.

Kate has made a remarkable recovery and even managed to return to school within a fortnight.

She was clear that she wanted to both recognise the high quality of care that she received from our local hospital and also find an unusual way of fundraising at school: She said: “The staff at Salisbury District Hospital were amazing.

“From the consultant to the cleaner, who plaited my hair when I couldn’t get out of bed, they were incredible.

“I don’t know how to thank them enough and this is why I decided fundraise for the STARS Appeal.

“My friend Lauryn came up with the idea of taping a teacher to the wall and asking students and staff to pay to put the tape on. I thought this was a brilliant idea and a new way of raising money.”

History teacher and head of house Nick Martin became the unlucky teacher at the centre of the fundraising stunt; students and staff used rolls of tape to secure him to an outside wall at St Edmund’s before removing the box he was standing on.

Headteacher Sarah Busby commented: “We are very proud of Kate and Year 11’s fundraising efforts and in admiration of the way in which Kate has recovered so quickly from such a serious accident.

“The STARS appeal was our local school charity last year and we are pleased to be able to support them again.”

The final total for Kate’s fundraising is expected to be several hundred pounds.
