ANTIQUES Roadshow star Marc Allum joined Oxfam volunteers in Salisbury to share some of his valuable knowledge.

He gave a talk on all things antiques as part of the Oxfam volunteer conference, which was held at City Hall on Friday.

Volunteers from the charity's shops across Wiltshire, including Salisbury, and also Dorset were in attendance.

Marc, who is one of the experts on the popular BBC show, shared his passion for antiques with the volunteers.

"Essentially, I'm trying to inject a bit of my own passion and feelings for objects into the people that work in the shops and to teach them how to recognise them and think outside the box a little bit about historical connections and how that relates to them being put on the market," he said.

"It is my firm belief that charity shops like Oxfam exist to make as much money as they can to do as much good as they can so of course you don't want to be selling things off cheaply."

He was also on hand to appraise items brought along from the various Oxfam shops during the lunch break. These included lithographs, Dalton vases, a Leica Copy Camera and tribal art.

Marc added: "It's been a valuable learning experience for me as well to find out things about the way the organisation and the shops run. It's been a good day — valuable for everybody and it is good to share knowledge."
