SALISBURY District Council is urging everyone to saddle up and ride their bikes this month to mark Bike Week.
The week runs from Saturday, June 16 to Sunday, June 24, and the council has teamed up with Wiltshire County Council and the Cycling Opportunity Group for Salisbury, to hold a series of cycling events in and around the city.
They include a family bike awareness day, scenic weekend and evening cycle rides and a mayoral cycle cavalcade. There will also be a Commuter Challenge run in conjunction with Spire FM where five commuters will be chosen to ride to work every weekday with the chance to win a new mountain bike.
The family bike awareness week is on Saturday, June 16 in Queen Street from 10am until 1pm, and the same day will see the Mayor's Bike Ride at 12.15pm.
COGS is organising a number of cycle rides including a dawn ride on June 21 to mark the Summer Solstice, setting off from the Five Rivers Leisure Centre at 3am to arrive at Stonehenge in time for the dawn ceremony. Full details can be obtained by ringing 01722 434325, or going to www.salisbury.gov.uk/cycling.
