SOME 1,000 villagers flocked to Whiteparish Fete on Saturday to enjoy a day packed full of family festivities.

Patricia Boyle, winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Local Hero Awards, began proceedings by opening the fete on Memorial Ground.

Villagers were kept busy with traditional fete games, including a raffle, tombola, bottle stall, skittles as well as enjoying a tea room, classic cars and tractors show, bouncy castle and more.

There was also a grand draw, which raised £1,000.

Entertainment came from Hursley Swing Band and dancers from the New Forest School of Dance.

In addition, an art exhibition was staged in All Saints' Church, with artists from the Salisbury area demonstrating their work.

One organiser, Richard Parsons, said: "This year's Whiteparish Fete was a great success, it was brilliant.

"Everything came together just right in the end and even the weather was good!"

In the build up to the event, 40 scarecrows were modelled round the village.

The winner depicted a Star Wars theme, entitled 'It's not burnt, it’s just a bit on the darkside’.
