THE annual Armed Forces Day event took place in the Market Place on Sunday with activities ranging from fair rides to a climbing wall.

This year there was also live music throughout the day alongside street food, static displays and free workshops.

The Spitfire Sisters, a three-part vocal harmony group recreated the vintage sounds of the 30s and 40s, and the Salisbury City Band of the Royal British Legion, provided musical entertainment.

There were also static displays to get a feel for army life, with army regiments and recruitment, army vehicles and a display of RAF and spy wireless equipment.

14 Reg 3 Core Battery Royal Artillery took part in a 1,000-mile bike ride virtually from Larkhill to Seringapatam, India. It was the final part of an epic 5,056- mile ride.

City council clerk Reg Williams said: “We were very lucky with the weather.

Lots of people came and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”

Another Armed Forces community event will be the Sunset Ceremony. The Royal Artillery Band will be performing on Thursday, July 7 at 7.30pm in the Guildhall Square in Salisbury.

All are welcome to attend.
