THE Amesbury Flood Action Group is asking anyone who sees a blocked drain to report it to Wiltshire Council.

The group which held its third meeting at the Antrobus Hotel last Thursday was set up after homes in the town were hit by flooding.

At the meeting chairman Christine Glover reported that some progress had been made on clearing the highways’ drains in the town, and asked for people to report blocked drains either via the council website here, by calling 0300 456 0105 or on the MyWiltshire app.

She said: “We need as many reports as possible. This will keep pressure on the council.

“Obviously our long-term aim is to get the drainage system upgraded to cope with all the new building that has taken place, and is still taking place, on Boscombe Down, but our immediate aim is get the Victorian system cleared.

“We keep finding blocked drains, which means that the old system has no chance of coping with the excess water coming off the hill, and causing so much flooding, misery and financial loss to residents lower down in the town.

“After two major floods in 11 months, the council can no longer claim this flooding is a one off.”

Wiltshire Council has said it will carry out a CCTV survey of the drainage system to determine if there is any damage or blockages that may be contributing to the flooding issues.
