THE memory of a Durrington mum who lost her four year battle with leukaemia will be honoured during a special fundraiser.

The dinner party, C4C Celebrate for CLIC, is being held to celebrate the life of Alex Birkenhead who died in October 2008 — aged just 24.

The event takes place at the White Hart Hotel on September 3 and is in aid of CLIC Sargent.

Her friend Beccy Miller, who is organising the dinner party, said: “Alex was always smiling and laughing and was such a happy person.”

Alex was first diagnosed with the disease in 2004 - six months after the birth of her daughter.

After treatment it was thought the disease was under control but it returned in 2008.

“She fought like an absolute trooper and beat the disease, however after getting back to some form of normality it came back in 2008 and after another tough fight sadly Alex passed away in the October," said Beccy.

“Eight years later we now feel it is time to throw her a big dinner party whilst raising money for CLIC Sargent, who were a tremendous support not only to Alex but to her family throughout her illness and passing.

“Alex loved a good party so what better way to remember her and celebrate who she was.”

The dinner party includes a three course meal which will followed by music from Millers Daughter and Salisbury-based DJ Rhysa Harding. Both acts are providing the entertainment free of charge – meaning more money can be handed over to the charity.

Beccy said: “Although the fundraiser is in memory of dear Alex this is a party to celebrate CLIC and all the amazing work they do for children and young people with cancer.”

Local businesses have shown support for the event by donating raffle prizes for the evening.

She added: “I want to thank everyone who has helped, in particular the businesses and people who have donated raffle prizes or provided their services free of charge.”

Tickets are £35 and available by contacting Beccy on miller.rebecca@outlook.com or 07557534361.

Any businesses who would like to support the event by donating raffle prizes are also asked to get in touch.
