THE opening of several new stores at a busy retail park in Salisbury has brought a boost for jobseekers in the area.

Southampton Road will soon boast four new businesses, when B&M Bargains, Oak Furniture Land, Harveys and DFS open this month.

B&M Bargains is by far the biggest boost for local employment, creating 100 new jobs in the city.

Oak Furniture Land is due to open tomorrow, creating another seven jobs.

And DFS will also open this month, bringing another ten jobs.

Meanwhile, on London Road, the new Aldi supermarket has created 39 jobs so far, with more planned.

And Premier Inn is expanding and looks set to take on another 10 staff.

Argos is expected to recruit more staff locally, as the firm announced it was hiring an extra 10,000 seasonal employees nationwide.

It is not clear how many jobs were lost when BHS closed last Saturday, but job centre manager Julie Marshall said many of the store's staff had already moved into other retail jobs in the city.

Salisbury's BHS was among the first stores nationwide to close after the firm's collapse was confirmed in June.

The latest figures from Salisbury job centre show there are 380 jobseekers in the city in receipt of unemployment benefit.

Wiltshire College and the Army are actively recruiting in Salisbury.
