ONE of Salisbury’s oldest pubs has been given a new lease of life and re-opened this week.

The Old Ale House, which closed last year, opened it’s doors as the Old Ale and Coffee House on Monday. It is now owned by Ed and Buffy Turner, who live near Andover, as well as their partner Shane O’Neill who has moved from London to help run the pub.

Ed and Shane have previously worked in pubs together, but this is Ed’s first pub owned with his wife, Buffy and he says it will be a “bit of a family affair”.

The new pub will open seven days a week, serving coffee and snacks (as well as traditional pub food).

Ed plans to host brunches on Saturdays and “proper Sunday roasts” and is already preparing for themed nights and festivals in the newly refurbished pub and garden, which now boasts three beach huts which can be booked by small groups or used by customers when available.

The bar will have about 20 bottled beers and over 30 different wines, with an option to buy bottles of house wine to take home at a reduced price.

Ed said: “I think places like Salisbury are being overrun by chains and restaurants so I just wanted to do something that’s a little bit unique and a one-off, because the pub is personal to my wife and I”.
