A WOMAN was threatened with a knife and made to withdraw money from a cashpoint in the city centre. 

Police say the robbery happened yesterday afternoon in Salt Lane. 

A 36-year-old woman was walking towards the car park on the corner of Rollestone Street when she was approached by two men who demanded money.

The men forced the woman to walk to the cash machine outside Tesco, Castle Street and withdraw money.

She was threatened with a knife and made to hand over several hundreds of pounds in cash.

The two men then walked off in the direction of Salt Lane.

The victim was unhurt in the incident but was very shaken.

The men are described as follows:

Black, aged 20- 30 years, 5ft 10 – 6ft tall, of big build, wearing a dark blue hoodie with white writing on the front and dark blue tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Black, aged 18-35 years, 5ft 10 – 6ft tall, of slim build with short black hair. He was wearing a white t – shirt, light blue jeans and black shoes.

A potential witness was stood in the area of the cash machine at the time of the incident. He is described as white, aged 30-40 years, 5'4 -5'6 tall of medium build, with short brown hair and wearing blue jeans and a grey jacket.

DS Dean Garvin from Salisbury CID said: "This was a frightening experience for the victim and we are taking it very seriously. My team are carrying out enquiries in the area and we are following a number of leads to identify these men.

"We need to speak to the man who was stood near to the Tesco cash machine urgently as we believe he saw the two men with the victim, this man could well have information which helps us find these men.

"The city centre will have been busy at the time, taxi drivers may have been parked outside the Tesco store and shoppers may also have key details which could help our investigation. I ask that anyone who was in this area or saw the incident begin in Salt Lane comes forward and contacts me."

Local Commander, Inspector Pete Sparrow said: "This is a worrying incident and the local community will be understandably concerned. I want to reiterate DS Garvin's appeal for those who saw any part of the incident to contact us, information will be dealt with in confidence and it may help to identify these suspects.

"My officers are conducting increased patrols in the area and the wider City Centre, and we ask that the community is vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour straight away."
