A SALISBURY charity has announced a string of redundancies and shop closures, despite "very best efforts".

The Trussell Trust has made four workers redundant in Salisbury, with eight more redundancies across the rest of Wiltshire and Hampshire.

The Salisbury based charity, which aims to reduce hunger across the UK, will also be closing two of its stores.

A spokesman for the charity said: "Our charity shops exist to raise money to help The Trussell Trust stop UK hunger and we welcome the continued generosity and loyalty of our shop customers.

"Unfortunately, despite the very best efforts of our staff and volunteers, we have not been able to make some shops financially viable. As a result we are closing shops in Shirley and Fareham, with 12 redundancies in our social enterprise and shops team.

"We are sad to have had to make this decision and remain extremely grateful for the dedication of all our staff and volunteers."
