AN IT trainer is running in two half marathons next month to raise funds for the chaplaincy at Salisbury District Hospital.

Liam Thornhill will be running further than he has ever done when he takes part in the Bournemouth half marathon on Sunday, October 2 and then the Salisbury half marathon a week later.

He said: "Over the past couple of years I have fundraised for both the Stars Appeal and Salisbury Hospice in doing long distance walks but this time the cause is very personal to me.

"I’m raising money for the chaplaincy at the hospital as a way to say thank you to them.

"Back in March, during a routine 16 week antenatal appointment, my wife and I were given the heartbreaking news that our second daughter had passed away.

"During that incredibly distressing period the chaplains at the hospital were amazing and were always on hand to provide us with spiritual, emotional and practical support.

"Words cannot express how grateful we were to have the chaplains there and for all they did for us throughout, including giving baby Lilia a beautiful and dignified service."

The chaplaincy want to make some modern improvements, including the purchase of a new laptop and projector.

"As a way of expressing our eternal gratitude I want to help by raising some of the funds required and run further than I ever have done, twice," Liam said.
