A SHOPLIFTER who jumped from a second-storey window bringing Salisbury city centre to a standstill has been jailed.

Homeless Lyndon Turner, aged 33, was charged with thefts committed on September 09.

He admitted stealing DVDs and a CD from WH Smith, two flasks from Starbucks, a handbag and a baseball cap from Ecco, as well as the theft of a purse containing cash and other items from a woman.

He appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court the following day, where he pleaded guilty to all of the offences.

He was sentenced to four weeks imprisonment.

On August 30, Turner had been detained by security guards in Mountain Warehouse on suspicion of theft, before he climbed out of the window in a bid to escape.

He jumped to the pavement in New Canal, causing himself serious injuries.

Police were called at 3.50pm and cleared the Guildhall Square for the air ambulance to land, but it was diverted to Queen Elizabeth Gardens before being stood down.

The man’s injuries were not deemed life threatening, and he was taken to Salisbury District Hospital by ambulance.

He later discharged himself from hospital, before committing the thefts in the days afterwards.
