A CAR crashed on the A303 near Chilmark this morning at just after 9am.

Fire crews from Warminster and Shaftesbury attended the crash and made the scene safe.

The driver had escaped from the wreckage before they arrived.

A spokeman for Wiltshire Police said: "We were called just before 9am this morning by the ambulance service to a report of a road traffic collision on the eastbound carriageway of the A303 near Chilmark.

"We initially thought that one person was trapped, but this was not the case.

"Vehicle involved was a silver Toyota Yaris. Nobody believed to be injured."
