GREEN-FINGERED volunteers are needed to help maintain a wildlife garden at Salisbury District Hospital.

Salisbury Hospice calls on those interested in gardening to help the team maintain a wildlife garden at the southern end of the hospital.

The garden provides an area where patients, family and friends can sit quietly outside the main hospice building and enjoy the tranquillity and calm.

Volunteer co-ordinator Elaine Willman said: “Our wildlife garden has become a little overgrown and needs enthusiastic people with an interest in gardening to help prepare it for next year.

"Volunteers don’t need to be hugely knowledgeable as they will be supported by our team here at the hospice.”

The hospice volunteers carry out a variety of roles from helping in the day and inpatient units and supporting recently bereaved relatives, to using their skills to provide complementary therapies such as massage and reflexology.

Mrs Willman added: “If people are 16 and over and interested in volunteering then they are welcome to come along for an informal chat and look around the unit and garden.”
