AN ELDERLY couple's door keys were stolen in Gomeldon after a man knocked on their demanding money for cutting their hedge.

Police say at about 8.30pm on Monday, a man knocked at the door of an elderly woman's home in Ladysmith, and informed her that he had cut the hedge next door, as well as part of her hedge.

He demanded that she pay him £30.

The woman's husband went to get the money, and when he returned to the door, he found the door keys had been stolen.

The man is described as being between 30 to 40 years old, of medium build.

PC Jon Brunt said: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw this man in the Gomeldon area on the evening of 17 October, or anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles in and around the local area.

"This incident has no doubt been distressing for the elderly victims and I would appeal to anyone with information to get in touch."

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
