STUDIO Ghibli fans are in for a treat with the screening of When Marnie was There.
The 2014 Japanese anime drama film was written and directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi and produced by Studio Ghibli.
This was the final film for the studio with the retirement of Hayao Miyazaki a year before the film was released and it was the final film credit for Studio Ghibli animator, Makiko Futaki.
It is suitable for all ages, and in Japanese with subtitles.
The film was nominated for an Oscar for best animated feature film of the year in 2016 and won the Film4 Families Jury Award at the Seattle International Film Festival and the Young People’s Jury award for best feature film for ages 11-13 at the TIFF Kids International Film Festival.
The film is based on Joan G Robinson's novel of the same name and follows Anna Sasaki living with her relatives in the seaside town.
Anna comes across a nearby abandoned mansion, where she meets Marnie, a mysterious blond girl who asks her to promise to keep their secrets from everyone.
As the summer progresses, Anna spends more time with Marnie, and eventually Anna learns the truth about her family and foster care.
When Marnie was There is screened at Salisbury Arts Centre at 7.30pm on Wednesday (January 25).
Tickets are £8 from the box office on 01722 321744 or online at salisburyartscentre.co.uk.
