DEVIZES MP Claire Perry has hailed the announcement that A303 tunnel at Stonehenge will go ahead as a "real breakthrough".
Last week the government unveiled proposals to improve the A303 past Stonehenge and has launched a public consultation on its plans.
Ms Perry said: “After so many years of futile discussions, these proposals look to be a sensible and affordable solution to protecting the World Heritage Site at Stonehenge whilst ensuring people can travel rapidly to and from the South West avoiding the awful congestion which regularly occurs on this stretch of the A303.
"When built, the new road and tunnel will open up more access to the South West region and provide some real relief for my constituents trying to get through the traffic snarls that regularly build up.
"I want to see the detail of proposals for north/south road crossings but this is a massive step in the right direction”.
